With a focus on the Upper School, The Our Common Bond project and its 80,000 square feet of renovations and new construction created new spaces to enrich the curricular programming for USM’s students and faculty. The project featured a 7,000 SF new dining commons addition with full basement, expanded kitchen, new servery, created expanded seating for the Upper School Theater, a new art gallery, classroom spaces, and maker space.
The Jack Olson ’67 Commons and Palermo Hall servery improve USM’s ability to host large gatherings. It provides students and faculty an amazing and comfortable venue to enjoy meals, gather for functions and use the space as a resource for the school. An expansion was completed to the Upper School’s, Virginia Henes Young Theater creating more seating and improvements to audio/visual infrastructure, life safety systems, and back of the house support space. The New Performing Arts wing addition includes technology rich rehearsal spaces for the orchestra and band programs, as well as dressing rooms that double as music practice rooms. The Lubar Center for Innovation and Exploration is a hive of innovative activity, providing students with state-of-the-art equipment, CNC tools, 3D printers, collaboration space and multi-media resources. A new connecting stair to the facilities maintenance shop in the lower level allows students to undertake larger projects.
