Witte Hall, an existing residence hall comprised of two high-rise towers on top of a connected full first floor and basement, recently underwent a full renovation and addition to link both towers on all floors and the creation of a new 11th resident floor. The heating system, plumbing system, electrical system, doors, windows, utilities, building security, emergency generators, and fire pumps were replaced along with modification of the fire sprinkler system. The project included life safety, and ADA/access upgrades, both inside and outside the building, including move-in and move-out planning. The lower level and first-floor resident life, classroom and office space was remodeled, and two apartments for on-site managers are provided. The project consolidates new elevators, key mechanical equipment, accessible resident entry, and resident life space into the new connecting tower. A unique feature of the design included the introduction of an opening between the first floor and lower level to not only visually connect the two levels but also to promote social connectivity.
